Exchange fees, compared: Crypto fee calculator: Binance, Bybit, OKX, Kraken, Coinbase

Short answer

At the entry tier, spot fees run from 0.08% maker / 0.1% taker at OKX to 0.5% maker / 0.9% taker on Coinbase Advanced's US schedule. Rates fall as 30-day volume rises: at $50,000 a month, half maker, a month costs $45.00 at OKX and $112.50 at Kraken Pro and Coinbase Advanced (US), if last month's volume set your tier.

How is a trading fee calculated?

Fee = traded value × fee rate. A limit order that rests on the order book and gets filled pays the maker rate; an order that fills immediately against the book pays the taker rate. Your tier, and so your rate, is set from your trading volume over the previous 30 days, so the example below assumes that last month looked like this month.

  • Worked example, $50,000 of spot volume, half as maker:
  • OKX, Regular user: $25,000 × 0.08% + $25,000 × 0.1% = $45.00 a month.
  • Binance, Regular User: $25,000 × 0.1% + $25,000 × 0.1% = $50.00 a month.
  • Bybit, Regular User (VIP 0): $25,000 × 0.1% + $25,000 × 0.1% = $50.00 a month.
  • Kraken Pro, Tier 5: $25,000 × 0.15% + $25,000 × 0.3% = $112.50 a month.
  • Coinbase Advanced (US), Advanced 2: $25,000 × 0.15% + $25,000 × 0.3% = $112.50 a month.
  • Kraken Pro Tier 5 starts at exactly $50,000 of 30-day volume. Below that, Tier 4 (from $25,000) charges 0.2% maker / 0.35% taker.
  • Coinbase Advanced (US) Advanced 2 starts at exactly $50,000 of 30-day volume. Below that, Advanced 1 (from $10,000) charges 0.35% maker / 0.75% taker.

What do perpetual futures cost?

Perpetual futures fees are lower per trade than spot, but they are charged on the full position size, not on the margin you post. Example: a $50,000 position opened and closed with market orders pays the taker rate twice. That costs the same in dollars whatever leverage you use. At 10x leverage the position needs $5,000 of margin, so a $50.00 round trip is 1% of that margin before any price move or funding. Funding payments come on top and are not a trading fee.

Do fee-token discounts change the ranking?

For spot, yes. With the discount on, Binance and Bybit fall to $37.50 a month in the $50,000 example, below the $45.00 at OKX without discounts.

The discount cuts maker and taker by the same share, so it does not change which order type is cheaper. Token prices move, so holding a token to save fees is itself a position with its own risk.

  • Binance: paying with BNB cuts spot fees by 25% (0.1% to 0.075%) and perpetual fees by 10%. For futures, BNB must sit in the USD-M Futures wallet and cover the fee; otherwise the fee is charged in USDT without the discount.
  • Bybit: paying with MNT cuts spot fees by 25% (0.1% to 0.075%) and perpetual fees by 10%. Applies to spot and USDT/USDC perpetuals and futures; not for Pro-tier users, API orders, liquidation orders, trading bots or copy-trading followers. Without enough MNT, standard fees apply.

What does this calculator leave out?

  • Withdrawal fees: they depend on the network you pick and change with network conditions, so check the exchange's withdrawal page for your network before moving funds.
  • Funding payments on perpetuals, the bid-ask spread and slippage.
  • OKX: VIP tiers qualify by assets or 30-day volume; EEA and US users have separate schedules.
  • Coinbase Advanced: Entry rates differ by region (official blog, 2026-09-16): EU/UK 0.25% maker / 0.50% taker; other international markets 0.09% / 0.10%. The table used here is the US schedule.
  • Bybit: VIP thresholds were not published on the fee page we could open, so only the regular tier is used.
  • Binance: VIP tiers need both the 30-day volume and a BNB balance (VIP 1: $1,000,000 and at least 5 BNB). The calculator applies them only if you confirm the BNB balance.

FAQ

Which exchange has the lowest fees?

Without fee-token discounts, OKX has the lowest entry spot rate here (0.08% maker / 0.1% taker). With the BNB or MNT discount, Binance and Bybit come out cheaper in the $50,000 example. Your volume and maker share change the answer, which is what the calculator is for.

Why is Coinbase so much higher?

At the entry tier its US schedule is the highest here (0.5% maker / 0.9% taker), but it falls quickly with volume: Advanced 2, from $50,000 of 30-day volume, is 0.15% maker / 0.3% taker. Coinbase also lists lower entry rates outside the US (see the notes above).

Are maker fees always lower than taker fees?

Lower or equal on every schedule here. Binance and Bybit charge the same rate for both at the entry tier, with or without the token discount, so a resting limit order saves nothing on spot fees there until you reach a higher tier.

Does a lower fee make an exchange better?

Not on its own. Availability in your country, custody, liquidity and support matter as well. This page compares published fees only.
